RETIREMENT PLANNING | ALPHARETTA, GEORGIA
Decades of Hard Work Got You Here. Now Your Wealth Has a Job to Do.
For much of your career, the financial objective was accumulation.
Work. Save. Invest. Grow.
Retirement changes the equation.
Your paycheck may eventually stop, but your lifestyle does not. Investments may need to provide income while continuing to grow. Taxes still matter. Healthcare becomes increasingly important. Market declines can feel different when you are withdrawing rather than contributing. Decisions involving Social Security, retirement accounts, pensions, and your estate also become increasingly connected.
Fountain Wealth Partners helps bring those decisions together so you can approach retirement with a clearer understanding of what you have, what you can reasonably spend, and how your wealth can support the years ahead.
As a fee-only retirement planner in Alpharetta, GA, we eliminate coordination gaps across your balance sheet—delivering custom retirement cash flow planning with complete fee transparency.

Retirement Is Not Simply a Date. It Is a Financial Transition.
Before retirement, success can often be measured by how much you are saving and accumulating.
As retirement approaches, different questions begin to matter.
When you transition from accumulation to distribution, the math changes. A sustainable retirement strategy requires answering questions your working years never presented.
Critical Questions for the Distribution Phase
- When can we comfortably retire?
- How much can we spend without worrying that we are spending too much?
- Where should our income come from once the paycheck stops?
- When should we claim Social Security?
- Should we spend taxable assets first or begin taking money from retirement accounts?
- Should we consider Roth conversions before required distributions begin?
- How should our investment strategy change?
- What happens if markets decline early in retirement?
- How do Medicare and future healthcare costs fit into the plan?
- Can we help our children or grandchildren and still protect our own financial independence?
- What happens financially when one of us dies?
These questions cannot be answered by looking at an investment account alone.
They require a coordinated retirement strategy.
The Retirement Decision Deserves More Than a Rule of Thumb.
For many successful families, retirement is less about reaching a particular age and more about reaching a point where work becomes optional.
We help evaluate whether your accumulated resources can reasonably support the life you envision.
That begins with understanding both sides of the equation
What You Have
Investment and retirement accounts. Social Security. Pensions. Business interests. Real estate. Deferred compensation. Stock plans. Cash. Insurance. Other sources of income and wealth.
What Your Life May Require
Everyday spending. Travel. Housing. Healthcare. Taxes. Major purchases. Family support. Charitable giving. Unexpected expenses. And the legacy you hope to leave.
We can model different retirement dates, spending levels, market environments, and financial decisions to help you understand the trade-offs.
The goal is not simply to produce a retirement projection. It is to help you make a major life decision with greater clarity.
A Portfolio Balance Isn't the Same as a Retirement Paycheck.
One of the largest adjustments in retirement can be moving from receiving regular employment income to creating income from multiple financial resources.
Social Security. Pensions. Investment income. Retirement accounts. Taxable accounts. Cash reserves. Required minimum distributions. Perhaps rental or business income.
We help determine how those resources can work together.
That includes evaluating:
- How much dependable income you already have
- How much additional income your portfolio may need to provide
- Where withdrawals should come from
- How much liquidity or cash reserve may be appropriate
- How portfolio distributions should be coordinated with other income
- How taxes may affect withdrawal decisions
- How the strategy should adjust as circumstances change
Rather than treating withdrawals as isolated transactions, we consider them as part of a long-term retirement income strategy.
The Timing of Your Social Security Claim Will Affect Your Income for the Rest of Your Life.
Social Security is sometimes viewed as a relatively small piece of an affluent family's financial picture.
But the claiming decision can still have meaningful long-term consequences.
Should you begin benefits early? At full retirement age? Delay? How does your spouse's benefit affect the decision? What happens to household income when one spouse dies?
The right strategy depends on more than maximizing one person's monthly benefit.
We consider Social Security within the context of your other assets, retirement date, spending needs, taxes, longevity assumptions, investment portfolio, and survivor income.
The question is not simply, “When can I claim?” It is, “When does claiming make the most sense within our overall retirement plan?”
Retirement Can Create Tax-Planning Opportunities—but Timing Matters.
Retirement may change both the amount and the source of your taxable income.
The years after employment income declines but before required minimum distributions begin can sometimes create valuable planning opportunities. Through proactive retirement tax planning for Alpharetta, GA families, we identify strategies to help manage lifetime tax liability across all accounts.
Depending upon your circumstances, we may evaluate:
- Roth conversion opportunities
- Which accounts should fund current spending
- The timing of retirement-account distributions
- Capital gain and loss realization
- Charitable giving strategies
- Qualified charitable distributions when eligible
- Tax-efficient portfolio positioning
- Medicare-related income considerations
- The future effect of required minimum distributions
- How today's decisions may affect a surviving spouse's future taxes
Fountain Wealth Partners coordinates tax-aware strategies alongside outside CPAs and qualified tax professionals. We do not prepare tax returns or act as a licensed accounting firm.
We do not prepare tax returns or replace your CPA.
Our role is to identify tax considerations within the retirement strategy and, when appropriate, coordinate planning decisions with your qualified tax professional.
Market Declines Feel Different When You Are Withdrawing Money.
Before retirement, a market decline may provide an opportunity to continue investing at lower prices.
During retirement, the portfolio may be declining while still providing for your lifestyle.
That difference matters.
We build retirement portfolios with an understanding of the income they may need to provide, the time horizon they must support, and the risk level appropriate for the broader financial plan.
That may mean balancing:

Our role is to provide advice — not to sell you something.
- Assets intended for near-term spending
- Fixed income and other sources of portfolio stability
- Investments intended to generate income
- Long-term growth investments
- Inflation-sensitive investments
- Diversifying strategies

The objective is not to eliminate market fluctuations. Nor is it necessarily to become dramatically more conservative simply because retirement has arrived. The objective is to build an investment strategy that supports both today's income needs and tomorrow's purchasing power.
The Timing of Market Returns Can Matter When Withdrawals Begin.
Two retirees can earn similar average investment returns over time and still experience very different outcomes depending upon when strong and weak markets occur.
A significant market decline early in retirement can be particularly challenging when portfolio withdrawals are occurring at the same time.
That is one reason retirement planning should consider more than a long-term average return assumption.
We evaluate how portfolio risk, spending, liquidity, withdrawal strategy, and other income sources may affect your ability to navigate difficult markets.
Having a plan in place before volatility arrives can also make it easier to avoid emotional decisions during periods of uncertainty.
A Successful Retirement Plan Should Prepare for the Possibility That You Live a Very Long Time.
Retirement today can last 20, 30, or even more years.
That means your financial plan must consider not only today's lifestyle but also decades of inflation, changing healthcare needs, and eventually long-term care.
We help incorporate considerations such as:
- Medicare timing and premiums
- Healthcare expenses before and after Medicare eligibility
- Income-related Medicare premium considerations
- Long-term care and future care needs
- Insurance resources
- Longevity assumptions
- The financial impact if one spouse requires significant care
- The effect of one spouse surviving the other for many years

Our role is to provide advice — not to sell you something.

Not every future expense can be predicted. But you can consider important risks before they become immediate.
You Did Not Build Your Wealth Simply to Watch the Account Balance.

For some successful families, spending money in retirement can be surprisingly difficult.
After decades of saving and investing, the habit of accumulation can be hard to turn off.
You may wonder whether you can afford the second home.
Take the larger family trip.
Help a child purchase a home.
Give money to grandchildren.
Make a meaningful charitable gift.
Renovate the house.
Or simply spend more enjoying the years you worked so hard to reach.
Financial planning can help put those decisions into perspective.
When the plan supports it, our job is not always to tell you to save more. Sometimes it is to help you feel confident using your wealth for the life and people you built it for.
A Retirement Strategy Should Still Work When Only One Spouse Is at the Table.
Couples naturally divide responsibilities.
Often, one spouse becomes more involved with investments, taxes, and financial decisions while the other focuses elsewhere.
But retirement planning should never depend entirely upon one spouse.
We want both spouses to understand the overall financial strategy, know the people managing it, and feel comfortable asking questions.
The death of a spouse can change household income, Social Security, taxes, investment needs, estate decisions, and everyday financial responsibilities—at precisely the time when the surviving spouse may least want to make complicated decisions.
Planning ahead can provide valuable continuity.

Our goal is for the surviving spouse to know: What do I have? What happens next? And who do I call?
Retirement May Last Longer Than Your Career. Your Strategy Should Continue Evolving With You.
The plan you establish at 62 may not be the plan you need at 72 or 82.
Markets change.
Tax laws change.
Spending changes.
Families change.
Health changes.
One home may become two—or two may become one.
Children and grandchildren may need help.
Charitable priorities may grow.
Estate planning may become more important.

Our role is to provide advice — not to sell you something.

We continue to revisit your retirement strategy as circumstances evolve, helping you make adjustments along the way rather than treating retirement planning as a one-time event.

Common Questions About Retirement Income Planning.
How does retirement income planning differ from standard wealth management?
Standard wealth management focuses primarily on asset allocation and accumulation during your working years. Retirement income planning focuses on the mechanics of sustainable decumulation: establishing dynamic withdrawal schedules, preserving capital through market pullbacks, keeping taxable income under Medicare IRMAA surcharge limits, and harvesting cash efficiently across taxable, tax-deferred, and Roth accounts.
How does your fee-only fiduciary fee structure work?
Fountain Wealth Partners is a 100% fee-only fiduciary. We are compensated solely through a transparent, tiered asset-based fee (AUM) for managing your wealth and coordinating your financial plan, with householding provisions for family accounts. Our fee percentage scales down as household assets grow. We never accept commissions, sales loads, or third-party incentives, ensuring our guidance remains strictly aligned with your best interests.
Where are my retirement assets held?
Fountain Wealth Partners never takes direct custody of your funds. Client accounts are held in your name at leading independent, SIPC-insured institutional custodians—primarily Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. and Axos Clearing LLC. You retain complete, direct online visibility and receive independent monthly statements directly from the custodian.
When should I start planning my retirement distribution strategy?
We recommend formalizing your decumulation strategy 3 to 5 years before you plan to transition away from work. That timeframe allows us to establish dedicated cash reserves, evaluate multi-year Roth conversion windows before Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) take effect, and structure healthcare and Medicare transitions in advance.
How do you coordinate with my existing CPA on annual withdrawals?
We communicate directly with your CPA throughout the year to share realized capital gain and loss reports, schedule estimated tax payments, plan distribution timing, and coordinate multi-year tax planning strategies before calendar-year deadlines.
